The first time I finished reading Burn For Me I immediately flipped back to the first page and started all over again. I have done that exactly three times in my life. Since then I've re-read the story at least 8 times, maybe more I've lost count. Often a 5 star read drops dramatically on the re-read. The magic of the initial read is gone and I wonder what why I loved it so much the first time around. That never happens with An Ilona Andews book. This is especially true with Burn For Me, it holds up. The characters are so solid and entertaining; the story so engaging; the action so compelling I can fall into it over and over and never get bored. Gordon and llona Andrews build such memorable characters you can't help investing in them. If they have a fault (and I'm not sure they do) it's that all of their male Alpha characters are very similar, dark and dangerous, with a sly sense of humor that catches you off guard. I Adore Them.

Burn for Me is a whirlwind in more ways than one. A mystery, a dangerous quest, a burgeoning romance between two rock-headed alphas, neither of whom want to give up the wheel. Nevada - smart mouthed, stubborn and loyal to the ground. Mad Rogan dark - powerful and wickedly dangerous. He can literally move mountains. They will be rubble when he's done but that's beside the point. Together they do their damnedest to prevent a cataclysm, while testing each others mettle and bumping heads.

It would take me all day to explain why I love this book and in the end the words would basically boil down to this. The writing is superb. The characters are fabulous and the story is amazing.

It's been torture waiting for White Hot to drop.

I’m not totally done with Kate Daniels but wanted to give her other series Hidden Legacy a try. This was very difficult for me NOT to compare this series to Kate Daniels. No, its not fair but as much as I love Kate Daniels it was hard not to. I wanted to say that its not the same. Not even close. The world is different and so is the magic. UF romance is normally a slow burn and isn’t acted upon until a few books down the line. Now, the 2 MC’s didn’t really act on it but it was there from the beginning..the chemistry that is. This was an easy read for me. It started out slightly slow but that’s to be expected when laying down the ground work to a new series. It sped up pretty quickly though.

Nevada is a character who doesn’t know everything she knows the basics but doesn’t really care about anything magic. She’s the owner of her PI business who was originally started by her deceases Dad. She took over when he died and made it her own with the help of her family. They mainly consist of 3 teenagers, a Mom, a Grandma, and Nevada herself. Grandma and Mom are volatile on their own. They know how to handle their s*** and can be scary. They are funny as well. I enjoyed her family a lot. Nevada isn’t invincible and gets hurt. She’s got magic yes but its mostly untapped and she’s got an interesting power. Your basic lie detector. Nevada’s PI business mainly deals in cheating husbands and wives. In order to save their livelihood she’s having to take on a suicide mission for those who own her mortgage. If she doesn’t do this they all lose everything. Nevada’s character is very likable and funny and down to earth.

Connor “Mad” Rogan is a Prime which is basically the most powerful type of magic user. He’s got some major chops and served his country and mass killer…maybe. He’s quite psychotic, arrogant, smug and gets anything he wants even if he has to buy it or steal it. That is until he meets Nevada. She refuses to give him the information he needs. He is annoyed by this and pissed off and if he’s honest surprised. He is intrigued but he’s got a job to do and will achieve it by any means. Job being finding his teenage cousin who’s wreaking havoc with a bad influence Adam Pierce. Connor has no real regard for human life or its how it appears. I dont believe he’s a monster but he lacks empathy for sure. He mows down anything in his way and that includes Nevada at first. I wasn’t sure I liked him at first. He really grows on you. This is in Nevada’s POV. We dont know what Connor is thinking throughout the book which can be annoying. Its ok though because that’s how this duo writes. You get a little taste of what he thinks in the Epilogue. He wants Nevada like nothing else. Doesn’t understand why she keeps saying no. She fights him tooth and nail and explains why. So…naturally its his mission in life to prove her wrong and have her. These characters are both have their flaws and it will be interesting to see how they grow. Nevada doesn’t want to but she has to team up with Connor to eliminate the threat to the city. They’re running out of time to figure it all out and stop Houston from being burned to the ground. I have to admit I wasn’t sure I was going to continue this series or not about halfway in. The end cinched it for me. Yup gonna continue for now. I really enjoyed the book and the banter between Nevada and Connor. Look forward to reading more.

This team carefully crafts words to build a world of magic and arrogance and pride as egotistical magical families hold sway over Houston, Texas, as similar families do all over the world. In this world lives Nevada, a seemingly inconsequential magical talent who runs a private investigation agency with her family. Full of honor and honesty and lawful beliefs, she runs head into Mad Rogan and Adam Pierce and other "Prime" magical talents. Nevada is forced to track down a killer fire master before Houston itself burns. Aching tension with just enough hope for humanity pushes this story along and it pushed me not to stop reading until I finished the book. And don't get me started on the fast, clever, sarcastic and loving (at times) dialogue with Nevada and her family and her several nemeses. Five stars should be six. I happily await the next book in the series.
