The Edumacation of Jay Baker Christy Ottaviano Books Jay Clark Books

I was very impressed with this effort by a newly published writer. I found it very refreshing to see a teenage character developed in such a humorous manner. Mr. Clark did a very nice job developing his main character and seems at ease writing in the first person. It seems that he took personal teenage experiences and developed them into a funny and interesting story. The experience of dealing with family issues, (divorce of parents) gives very good insight into the serious manner in which this effects a young person. Using humor to help develop this part of the story line took the edge off this serious issue.

I would have liked to see more development of the ancillary characters helping me to have a greater sense of their effect on Jay Baker's life.

I believe that Mr. Clark has a great sense of his target audience (the 12+ market) and did a very nice job developing the story line to fit that market. His sense of humor is quite refreshing. As an older reader I may have struggled at times with the then pop culture references but I feel confident that this style plays well to the target audience.

I will be interested to see Mr. Clark's next effort as I found his writing style interesting and I feel as he grows as a writer his style will grow with him.

The Edumacation of Jay Baker Christy Ottaviano Books Jay Clark Books Reviews

Even though I graduated high school many years ago and my kids are starting elementary school, the story of Jay and his pals kept me entertained from start to finish. This is a story that appeals to anyone who was ever a teenager, which is everyone. I laughed myself to tears and sighed with relief that I don't ever have to be a teenager again.
Jay Clark captured my attention and took me to another time. I was back in school and seeing the world through youthful eyes once again. The realness of the plot was never lost during the entertainment and hilarity. I admired the characters and applaud the author's bringing them to life while leaving them vulnerable and flawed. This book exposed weakness but it gave a lot of hope too. There was love, acceptance, loyalty, and forgiveness demonstrated. I felt myself cheering, laughing, and caring about it all! I loved the witty slang; some of it may have stuck!
I can't wait to read the next book!
I LOVED this book! The author is funny, quick-witted, and keeps the
story moving at a pace at which the reader can't help but immediately
get caught up in and (unfortunately for those of us who hate the end
of a good read), keep reading until the bitter end - well, it's not so
bitter actually .... perhaps I was just bitter it ended.

I'm kind of an LOL'er by design, and this book really delivers on the
humor. I enjoy a good pop culture reference and like when authors play
on a reader's personal relationship with things "important" in the
world outside the one the author has created in the book - it makes
the characters even more relatable - you want to talk to Jay Baker
because he seems like one of those people in the know. He's clever,
and makes all the witty responses we all wished we could make. But we think of them too late ...

This book is great because sooo many types of people can relate to it .... You are a teen yourself, or your parents got divorced, or you live in a small town, or sooo many other things. It delivers by being humorous yet taking on some of those heavy issues that don't always make people quite spit out their Mountain Dew laughing.

I really hope to hear more from this author sooner rather than later and see how he will keep up the pace of what he has started. Don't miss this read!
If you have ever been in high school, this is a must read. I loved every page of this cleverly written novel. Cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel!
This book kept me laughing and crying and hoping the whole way through. Would recommend this to anyone with a sense of fun.
The Edumacation of Jay Baker was a delightful book and an easy read. I totally felt like I was in the head and heart of a teenage boy. I could feel my checks flush with his embarrassment and laughed out loud often, nodding my head in agreement or "I remember that!". I could even relate to the relationships among the main characters as though my teen years were not that far behind me. I bought a copy for my 16 year old nephew and he's reading it for the third time. Perhaps he sees some of himself in Jay and realizes that even though he thinks he's a geeky kid, he's going to get through his teens and all the angst associated with it. I thoroughly recommend this book to any adolescent or adult raising one!
This book is...brilliant. It's, without a doubt, one of the most creative books that I have picked up in a while. The author, Jay Clark, has an incredible way of getting you hooked from the beginning, to the point that it becomes impossible to put Edumacation down. The book is quick-whitted and hilarious, but also deals with some hard issues that I believe most everyone can relate back to. Clark has a way of making you care about each character he introduces, even the bully and the cheating mother. He takes time to tell their stories, so that you can better understand the characters actions. Overall, this book is a hidden masterpiece that everyone should take the time to read ) I am patiently waiting for Clark's next book!
