This book wasn't bad, but a lot of it felt like an "after-school special", if you know what I mean (the scene where guys start standing up in support in particular...). The book was written well, don't get me wrong, but there was a lot of extreme melodrama in the last 25% of the book.

I think it's a bit funny also that the agent was introduced and his entire scene is centered around him being support for Seth, saying over and over "if such-and-such happens, contact me immediately" and yet, when the time comes, Seth doesn't call him. That seemed very odd to me, but maybe that can be hand-waved away by saying Seth didn't understand how to deal with an agent, since he'd never had one before.

Even though it takes Seth and Colby a while to actually live in the same state in the book, it all felt very insta-love. Beyond sex and eating take-out together, the two didn't really do much to build a true romantic connection - especially with all the "are you cheating on me?" scenes that kept popping up. Sure, Seth is in the closet, but at least some heart-to-heart conversations or chats over playing cards, anything to build more of a connection beyond shower sex.

In any case, reading this was a good way to spend a couple hours, but it probably won't get more than one reread from me.

After The Snap edition by Peyton Miller Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I really fell in love with these two main characters. The book started a bit slow for me, way to much detail to begin, I struggled to keep with it, but about 30% through it picked up and hooked me in. Congrats on a great read...
I don't like to give bad reviews, but this book had one of the most mundane beginnings I have ever had the displeasure of forcing myself to read. I had to start skipping through paragraphs to get to the story that was the heart and soul of this book (first four chapters). HOWEVER, once you get to the story you will love this book. I loved the dynamics of the main characters and their bond left me in happy tears. Glad I forced through the beginning.
Although it's a sappy romance where everything works out for the principals, it's well-enough written that I can recommend it. The author uses a trite convention, having two men instantly attracted to each other and almost immediately falling in love. Otherwise, it's pretty good.
A great story of love, competition, and rooting for the under dog. Every twist and turn thrown at the naive quarterback turns into a touchdown. He demonstrates that hard work and dedication can be the key to success. He finds true love when he least expects it. From there on out, you are rooting for him.the book is a great sports story and an uplifting read that makes you not want to put it down.
Very relatable characters, believable romance, enjoyable if slightly melodramatic plot. A solid read, would recommend. Warning for the initial few chapters; there's a bad relationship with power imbalance. There is also an attempted sexual assault later on.
Appreciated the build up of the main characters, Seth and Colby. Really appreciated the great Editting! When the one glaring mistake happened towards the last part of the book, I went huh? That was the only one I remembered. Definitely fantasy, when it comes to the NFL and gay acceptance, which is sad. Was a wee bit predictable with Seth's " old coach issue". All in all a great story, thank you for sharing Peyton Miller. Looking forward to your next book.
After The Snap is the debut novel by Peyton Miller. It is a standalone read that I think you will enjoy, especially if you like sports based stories.
Seth Mercer is a pro Quarterback who has been in the closet in order to keep playing a game he loves. He has not been very trusting of others.
Colby Larsen is a multi-racial gay man who has been hurt one to many times by unfaithful partners. He has decided to stick to advancing his career.
Seth and Colby meet and are instantly drawn to each other. Can they last with the surprises they face from their coming together?
Peyton Miller has written a story that will pull you in and make turning the pages a must. I enjoyed this debut story and look forward to more stories from Peyton Miller. Give After The Snap a try, I think you will enjoy it.
